A Billion Reasons
Centuries ago, oysters occupied 220,000 acres of New York Harbor, where they filtered 50 gallons of water a day and contributed to the ecosystem of other marine life.
As New York City developed as a global logistics hub, sewage and industrial wastewater flowed into the ocean. By the early 20th century, the port had become polluted and marine life had died out.
The Billion Oyster Project was launched in 2014. Since then, 11,000 volunteers have participated, and 8,000 students, 100 schools across New York City, and over 50 restaurants have partnered to release oysters, create reefs, and spread information, ultimately restoring the natural environment and inspiring students to take an active role in environmental conservation.
Oris has focused on water, the source of life, and has actively supported conservation efforts around the world, releasing a number of watches to support public relations efforts such as research and observation on Lake Baikal, coral reef restoration programs in Australia and Florida, and the issue of marine plastic waste.
The green Super-LumiNova finish provides excellent visibility even in the dark.
The indexes and hands are coated with luminous paint (Super-LumiNova coating (BG W9)), which makes them glow brightly even in the dark.
