The Oris Calibre 473 is the first in-house developed manual-winding movement in decades for the Big Crown Pointer Date, an iconic design that has been part of Oris's mainstream collection since 1938. It has a five-day power reserve, high magnetic resistance, and will function without maintenance for 10 years .

The caliber 473 is built on the same foundation as Oris' automatic caliber 403. This means it has hour, minute and small seconds hands, a pointer date hand, and a 120-hour power reserve gauge on the back of the movement.

The Calibre 473 was developed by Oris' in-house team over a period of four years.

As its name suggests, the Big Crown features a large crown designed to be easily operated even while wearing gloves. Its ease of adjustment and winding made it extremely popular among U.S. Air Force pilots during World War II.

The crystal is domed, reminiscent of old military watches, and is made of sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating on the inside.
