Recommended CommentsThis extremely rare pocket watch is no longer in production and is no longer available new. Used by employees of the Japan National Railways (JNR), the 19 Seiko is an essential part of Japan's railway history, boasting world-class accuracy. With 15 jewels and a stop-seconds function, it's a high-spec watch. Good-condition 19 Seiko watches are becoming increasingly rare, and this watch has been overhauled and is still in good condition. The back is engraved with "Showa 35 3114 JNR." This is one of the few 15-jewel oval-ring watches produced for just three years, from 1960 until the exterior case was changed in 1963. It's a rare early model. It's engraved with the "Discarded" mark, a mark that indicates it was properly disposed of.

During the Showa era of the Japanese National Railways, the 19SEIKO was a favorite among railway workers for its high precision.

During his time at Seikosha, founder Kintaro Hattori developed the 19th Seiko, a watch with high precision that could rival the foreign-made watches that were in use at the time.

This watch continued to evolve through small, repeated minor changes until 1971.

Seiko pocket watches were popular as Japan's leading "working watches," and have a history of being used not only on railways but also in the cockpits of Zero fighters during wartime.
