Olive trees bring happinessAntonio Zaccarella Wall Clock ZC945-005

The flower language of olives is "peace" and "wisdom."

The olive tree design, which brings happiness, is a gift that conveys your feelings for your loved one.

~ "Prayer" embodied in the olive design ~

The story begins at the end of March 2015, on a car ride from Rome to Zaccarella's workshop.

The always friendly Mr. Zaccarella suddenly looked serious and said, "In 2014, the olive harvest was poor all over the world, and here in Italy too. It's very sad for the people who live here." Unfortunately, Italy's olive harvest continued poorly in 2016.

This time, Zacarella will be releasing his olive designs, which incorporate prayers and wishes for a good harvest, exclusively in his shop in Rome and in Japan.

Comments from Seibido staffRepresentative Director: Kawamura

The unique touch that makes the most of the clay's characteristics, and the blue color that evokes the Mediterranean Sea. Because all the pieces are handmade, each one is unique in terms of the hand-drawn designs and color due to the degree of firing.

This wall clock is one of a kind and is the perfect gift, imbued with the wish that happiness will be bestowed upon the recipient.

<About the work>

the work

The distinctive color effects, abstract geometric lines, and suggestive fairytale motifs of Zaccarella's work are the work of ceramicist Antonio Zaccarella and his sons, Angelo and Simone Zaccarella.

Their pieces are all individually handmade in Zacarella's workshop and can be found in art galleries and specialty stores in Italy and abroad.

Zacarella's ceramics are admired in the brand's showrooms near the Pantheon in Rome, in Capri and other Italian cities, and are equally popular in Spain, India, Australia and Japan.

<About the Atelier>

Atelier

The atelier is located on a hill near the Volturno River in the Molise region of Italy, in the ancient Samnium region, which later became part of the Roman Empire. Antonio Zacarella has been forging ceramics for over 30 years.

The Raku ware technique allowed Antonio Zacarella to pursue his creative pursuits, and his sons Angelo and Simone have continued to create unique pieces.

Manufacturing technique

<About the production techniques>

They are particular about the materials they use, blending carefully selected clay from Spain, France, Germany, Italy, and other parts of Europe. Their unique painting techniques (using enamels fused with oxides such as copper and silver nitrate) have been established over the years. Their kiln firing techniques also take into account the cracks that occur during firing, known as crazing, and incorporate them into the art.

The firing method is called "Raku ware," a technique that was commonly used in Japan during the Azuchi-Momoyama period. Raku ware is characterized by two firing processes: bisque firing and finishing firing after painting, resulting in excellent color development and a vibrant finish. It is known for its vibrant color expression, such as vibrant turquoise blue. After being removed from the kiln, sawdust is sprinkled on the piece to create an oxygen-free combustion effect. This extra step adds the unique coloring that is characteristic of Zaccarella. It is truly a "jewel" created by repeated coincidences/miracles, a "jewel" made by human hands.
