Sputnik 1, the world's first unmanned artificial satellite, was launched by the former Soviet Union in 1957.

In Russian, "Sputnik" means "something attached to it," which has come to mean "satellite" or "artificial satellite."

The successful launch of Sputnik not only encouraged the Soviet people and marked a major scientific and technological achievement, but also shocked the American people, their Cold War opponent, and influenced the political situation during the Cold War, including the start of the space race between the United States and the Soviet Union.

It is equipped with a manual winding movement (POLJOT 2609) from the Soviet era.

The POLJOT 2609 movement, which is no longer in production and is not expected to be produced in greater numbers in the future, is remembered as the movement worn by Gagarin, the first human being to fly into space.
