Yuri Gagarin, the Soviet cosmonaut who became the first man to successfully fly into space.
He is also well known in Japan for phrases such as "The Earth was blue" and "There was no God," which were his impressions of the Earth seen from the outside during his 108-minute space flight.
After returning safely to Earth, at the age of 27, he became a celebrity and a national hero in the Soviet Union.
He always remained positive and smiling no matter the situation, and as he set off into space carrying the expectations of the world, he was truly worthy of being called a Russian hero.
The first manned space flight by a human. The young pilot Gagarin, representing the Soviet Union, joined the space program at the age of 27.
Gagarin boarded the Vostok 3KA-2 spacecraft, which was said to be a cramped spacecraft, and set off into space, a place no human had ever reached before.
